Protecting the neglected furry residents of the city

Despite being a civilization that has had a fair chance to expand, and adapt to changes over the decades, coexisting peacefully with animals is something that most Pakistanis still do not acknowledge. The unjust treatment of animals in Pakistan primarily stems from a lack of empathy and education. Moreover, the lack of laws to protect animals from abuse has led to an increase in the number of animal abuse and abandonment cases in Covid-19 at an alarming rate. The cruelties towards animals have become normal and animal protecting welfares are often ridiculed and dismissed for being insignificant.

But there also exists a small segment of society that cares for animals and takes animal welfare seriously. These are the people who have learned to coexist with animals and are devoted to taking care of them.

ACF Animal Rescue (Ayesha Chundrigar Foundation) is one such non-profit animal protection organization that’s running in Karachi, Pakistan. ACF is one of the first and largest rescue services and shelters for the injured, abused, and neglected animals of Pakistan. Although ACF Animal Rescue provides outstanding care and attention to the animals (either rescued from the streets or dropped off at the shelter), there are still some limitations to what they can do. Running a shelter requires a lot of work and the shelter home needs all the help they can get. We all can contribute to these efforts in a lot of different ways.

How can we help animals right now?

Helping animals in need is one of the most fulfilling things we can do. The smallest things can have exceptional effects on the lives of animals in the shelter.

We all can make a huge impression when we donate to save animals. The funds will be used by ACF to buy supplies like food, clothing, medicine, and improve the shelter’s facilities. We can also offer to volunteer for a short amount of time. One of the best things that we can do is donate funds and supplies to ACF’s animal shelter; like old blankets, toys, and other supplies.
